GUIDE TO SUBMITTING A SYMPOSIUM PROPOSAL

The 13th Singapore-International Physiotherapy Congress (SIPC) 2024 welcomes the submission of high-quality symposium proposals. The theme of the congress is “Advancing the Frontiers of Physiotherapy: Towards a Healthier SG”.
WHAT is a symposium?
Duration: The symposium is a 90-minute session delivered in English during the
congress. The symposium can be delivered individually or by a group of up to 4 registered delegates.
Aim: The symposium aims to provide evidence-based information within a particular field through a series of thematically-linked presentations. It aims to promote the exchange of scientific research and other projects including quality improvement projects.
Delivery mode: The symposium involves an introduction by the convenor, a maximum of three or four 15 to 20-minute presentations, followed by a summary of the presentations by the convenor to finish the symposium. After all the presentations are delivered, there will be time set aside for the audience to ask questions and interact with the presenters.
Differences: Symposiums differ from workshops in that symposiums are targeted at a wider audience and tend to be less hands-on.
WHAT information is needed to submit a symposium proposal?
1) Symposium title:
Craft an interesting and informative symposium title that provides a clear understanding and picture of the symposium. Try to make it interesting, engaging and descriptive.
2) Symposium Proposal (maximum of 400 words) that includes:
a. Learning objectives: Communicate a clear sense of the symposium and its objectives, and plan to either transfer knowledge, or increase the skills of the conference delegates. Tell them what they will gain from attending the symposium.
b. Description of content: The symposium content should be current, supported by research and consistent with best practices. 3) Outline of symposium:
The symposium outline should contain the names of convenors and presenters, topic titles and the duration of each presentation, for example:

It is important to write the symposium proposal with an understanding of who will review the symposiums and how they will be scored.
WHO and HOW will the symposium proposal be reviewed?
All symposium proposals are peer reviewed by professionals knowledgeable in the topic. Professionals will review the proposals based on the following criteria:
- Objectives – Objectives should be manageable/achievable and clearly evident throughout the symposium.
- Expertise – Symposium convenor and/or speakers should be considered experts in their field, or possess a track record of clinical, teaching and/or research experience in the topic area.
- Content – Content should focus on participants’ needs, and adopt an evidence-based approach.
- Relevance – Focus of symposium should develop relevant knowledge and skills that will help physiotherapists to improve patient care. Ideally, the symposium topic should fit into the theme of the congress “Advancing the Frontiers of Physiotherapy: Towards a Healthier SG”.
- Outcomes – Delegates will learn something new and be guided and inspired by the convenor and/or speakers to improve their own professional practice and change for the better.

On submission, please put the following text in your email header: “SIPC2024: Submission of Symposium Proposal [Title of Symposium]”.
