Early Mobilisation (EM) is the cornerstone in the rehabilitation of neurosurgical patients. There are challenges that come along the way while performing EM. Hence an understanding of the clinical decision making process in safely mobilising this group of patients is an integral part of rehabilitation.
Objectives:
1)To understand the precautions and contraindications of EM of neurosurgical patients in the acute setting
2)To examine the reasons for the low uptake of EM in acute neurosurgical unit with considerations of barriers and facilitators
3)To discuss the clinical decision making algorithm in determining the appropriateness of EM in neurosurgical patients.
