SPA Education Event: Physiotherapy and the earth's global climate: a need for cultural change (revisited)

Many of us are concerned about the burden human activity is placing on the planet and ongoing environmental degradation is likely to lead to many health problems, including the likelihood of more pandemics. This presentation will introduce ideas that support a more environmentally-caring physiotherapy profession. Lester will revisit the 2009 article, written shortly after bushfires in Australia killed over 170 people. He will present the challenges to implementing recommended actions and share some observations (and some concerns) about current physiotherapy practice. He will provide an overview of ways of employing the natural environment in treatment and also introduce the global initiative, ‘Environmental Physiotherapy Agenda 2023’, in which Singapore Institute of Technology is involved as a participating organisation. This presentation will explore opportunities for the profession's decision-makers to support making physiotherapy greener and what individuals might choose to do as managers or in their clinical practice.

Dr Lester Jones, Senior Lecturer, Singapore Institute of Technology

    Registration starts 11 October 2021.
